When people think winter in Colorado, they think ice. Short Denver taxi rides into the city allow anyone to test their skills on the ice at the Joy Burns Arena at Denver University. Because it is so conveniently located in the heart of Denver, many Denver shuttles will know the exact routes to take to get there. It's an indoor full size Ice rink open to the public on varying days and times. Check their public skate calendar at the Denver University Recreation Website. At a fairly reasonably entry, it's $5 for Adults and $4 for kids 12 and under with a $2 Skate rental price, which is just as much as the Denver taxi ride to get there; surprisingly affordable! The arena is located off Buchtel Boulevard at DU's Ritchie Center and there is metered parking around for Denver cars or someone can take the new Denver shuttle service that goes directly to the school campus.
After a few hours of smooth skating on the ice, people like to welcome the night with one of Denver's Holiday light displays either at the Botanic Gardens, the Denver Zoo which is a short Denver taxi ride away. Denver shuttles make trips during the winter season around the famous sights for tourists and locals alike to catch a glimpse of the beauty that downtown Denver has to offer. Additional to the millions of lights that dazzle the eyes there is nightly music and entertainment to fill the ears too, which is pleasing when compared to the Denver taxi horns heard throughout the day. When planning the trip and Denver transportation, keep in mind that the garden is open from 6pm - 9pm, but tickets can be purchased from 9am-5pm or at the gate during opening, as well as King Soppers Grocery Stores, which are just a hop, skip, and a Denver taxi ride away. There are many new features to this year's Blossoms of Light, including new sculptures throughout the park by artist Robert Wick. Another added feature is the 3-D Holospex glasses which enhance the entire park with 3-D snowman or snowflakes. Of course, this can’t be seen sitting in a Denver taxi. The 3-D glasses are only a dollar a piece and tantalize every light with spectacular snowflakes bursting off the trees or snowmen that seem to dance from every angle. There are also the added LED lights that keep things bright, but still save energy. Blossoms of Light runs through January 21, 2007, there is on sight parking or Denver buses within a block's walk.
The Denver Zoo's holiday light display, Zoolights started December 8th and runs through December 31. Go on Zoo's year Eve, Dec. 31, for lots of attractions for the family. The Zoo is located on 23rd Avenue, between York Street and Colorado Blvd by City Park, there is parking or Denver buses.
